Diabetes + Pre-Diabetes

30.3 million people, or 9.4% of the U.S. population has Diabetes, and more than 25% of them are undiagnosed. Another 84 million American adults—more than 30%—have pre-diabetes. Of those with pre-diabetes, 90% don't know they have it.

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is the condition in which the body does not properly process food for use as energy. Much of the food we eat is turned into glucose, or sugar, for our bodies to use for energy. The pancreas, an organ that lies near the stomach, makes a hormone called insulin to help glucose get into the cells of our bodies.

What is pre-diabetes?

Pre-diabetes is a condition where the blood sugar is higher than normal, but the person does not yet have diabetes. Pre-diabetes is also called impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and it often has no symptoms.

Studies have shown that most people with pre-diabetes develop diabetes within 10 years if no interventions are made.

How can Well Integrative Medicine help me?

In conventional medicine, diabetes is primarily treated with medication along with suggested dietary change, but studies have increasingly shown that treating these risk factors chiefly with medication is not the way to go. Science shows diabetes and obesity are preventable and reversible with aggressive utilization of nutrition and lifestyle modifications. Using a functional medicine approach, we show you how seriously changing your diet and lifestyle can be the most powerful intervention to prevent and reverse diabetes and pre-diabetes for a healthier and more productive future.
